Saturday, July 27, 1 p.m. Erika Christensen has just walked into her spacious Century City hotel room after flying out of Vancouver only eight hours ago. Her suitcases are placed neatly on the bed, side by side, still zipped and securely locked from the flight. You could count the number of hours she's slept on one hand, but her hair is still held up perfectly in a bun, her cheeks rosy from a light blush. She admires her reflection in the hall mirror, wearing the new denim jacket a nearby publicist has handed her—- a coat that would look like any other jean jacket if not for the heart-shaped patch on the sleeve that says "The Banger Sisters." After buttoning it up to make sure it's not too snug, she sits down on the couch and begins to eat the plate of food her publicist has brought her, quickly apologizing if any chewing noises get picked up by my nearby tape recorder.
"I've had a crazy night—- or day," she tells me. "I was shooting last night in Vancouver, and we wrapped actually a lot earlier than we thought. We thought we would wrap around 2 a.m. but we wrapped at midnight. Then I had to fly out at 5 a.m.” With two movies coming out in September and another project currently being filmed in Vancouver, Christensen is working hard to not only juggle her life these next few weeks, but also get some sleep. Traveling back and forth between shooting her latest big-screen adventure, The Perfect Score, and fulfilling press obligations for The Banger Sisters and Swimfan, Christensen admits that living the life of a full-time actress gets tiring—- especially when you are only 20-years old. "Benicio (Del Toro) once told me to 'stay focused”, Christensen says as she takes a sip of her water. "I think it's a really good piece of advice because I want to work in this business for the rest of my life. It really means a lot to me. And it's not that staying focused is something that I really have a problem with—- staying focused when I get focused—- but every once in a while I forget. Like last night I was like, 'but it's Friday night!' I wanted to stay up all night. I didn't want to sleep before I got on a plane at 5 a.m. to do The Banger Sisters press junket. But then I was like, 'well, maybe I better be coherent.'"
