Marshall, Barrymore Make 'Riding in Cars' a Trip Worth TakingUnfortunately, no matter how talented Barrymore and Zahn are in their roles, viewers will find it hard to buy the actors in the beginning of the film when they are supposed to be 15 years old. Although the make-up artists do a fair job at aging the characters throughout the film, only Brittany Murphy comes close to resembling an actual 15-year-old. This is disappointing because all the other elements from the changing time periods-- the soundtrack, the clothes and the scenery-- are so perfectly set. Sheila Jaffe and Georgianne Walken, who cast the film, would have just been better off actually casting teenagers who resembled the film's main stars rather than trying to make Barrymore and company look so young. For outside of this one flaw, the film is believable from beginning to end. "Riding in Cars with Boys" could have easily been a slow-paced drama enjoyable only to those who read the novel it was based on beforehand, but thanks to fine direction and a talented cast the movie is an absolute treat. Although it may look like a chick flick at first glance, people of both sexes will find the film an unforgettable roller-coaster ride of emotions. Coming off of a summer with only a handful of must-see films, "Riding in Cars with Boys" is a delightful movie that shouldn't be missed.
