The Cast of 'Joe Dirt' Talks About Lessons Learned On The Set

during that scene."

Trimming down the dog scene wasn't the only time Gordon worked hard to please the audiences without boring them. Like many gross-out comedies nowadays, 'Joe Dirt' is full of poop jokes to please the younger viewers.

"I tuned down the poop jokes to please the older audience but I knew there had to be some in the film to please the 18 and under crowd," Gordon said.

Gordon also worked hard to please her cast members, many who had busy schedules with television shows airing during the film's shoot.

"I did my homework on the cast members and had heard that Dennis Miller could be very difficult to work with," Gordon said. "So I called up the woman who had directed all his HBO specials and told her I had him for one day and had to haul ass, what do I do? She told me to move like the wind. She said if I moved fast, was decisive and didn't do a lot of takes, he would love me forever. I rushed three days of filming into one and he saw quickly I was moving, so it went by smoothly."

Gordon said that the filming not only taught her things as a director, but also things about the cast she never knew.

"I had a blast with the cast, especially David. He plays the part of Joe Dirt with such a wonderful vulnerability and such a big heart viewers will get to see a whole new side to him. He was really acting and the experience was great."

"Playing and writing for a character like Joe Dirt came easy," Spade said. "I would do these types of characters like James Bond if the audience wants me to."

To decide for yourself if you want to see Joe Dirt as much as James Bond, see 'The Adventures of Joe Dirt.' The film opens up in theaters everywhere March 9, 2001.
