someone else's life though has to be with her son Maddox, who the star adopted last year while on location in Africa filming the November release Beyond Borders. And while motherhood may have seemed like Jolie's most outrageous role to date, it's clear just listening to the actress talk that she has a new focus in life.
"Being a parent is harder than anything I've ever done, but it's also the greatest thing in the world, so it's a very delicate balance. He comes to work with me in the morning and we have breakfast, and then we have lunch together, and then his bedtime is late, so I have a few hours after work everyday and things like that. He kind of makes everything worthwhile, so it makes it easy [juggling acting and parenting]."
Up next for Jolie is a role even her son can see, the animated underwater feature Sharkslayer. And while many may think that Jolie took on the role of an animated fish so that her son could see what she does for a living (Lord knows Maddox won't be seeing Original Sin anytime soon), Jolie states that she didn't go after the role- it came to her.
"I got a call one day asking if I wanted to be in this animated film," Jolie recalls. "I was shocked, honestly. But I went in anyway and when I got to the studio there were these drawings of these fish on the wall. I noticed one fish with a very big mouth- the bad fish- and I was like, 'let me guess...''"
Although Jolie admits that she is very happy and excited to be doing Sharkslayer, for those wondering if motherhood will be changing Jolie's choices in roles in the future rest assured that Jolie doesn't plan on becoming a PG actress anytime soon. In fact, Jolie says that her new maternal and "soft" instincts are making her want to play a bad role now more than ever before. "I want to play someone seedier and darker than I have in the past. Even with Girl, Interrupted I felt like the character was good because she was emotional. I haven't really explored my sexual, bad and aggressive side on film before without being apologetic for it."
