Resume Database Access

Resume database access is a standard feature on all major recruitment sites. Some include this service in their job posting cost, while others charge an additional fee. We will look at the various database services of several of these major sites in the next column, but first I want to highlight two web sites whose only or major focus is on resumes. I found both of these to be innovative, informative and highly useful.

www.instamatch.com is all about resumes - for now. A new site, it indicates that they will be adding some features in the upcoming weeks. Entitled InstaPost and InstaHire, they state they will offer employers the opportunity to post positions to numerous sites including the employer's own.

Their database at this writing is 6,561 resumes. Not a huge number, but in various searches I located numerous candidates. Looking for an accounts payable person in the Atlanta area, for example, I came across eleven qualified workers. Eleven help desk candidates from Florida were included in the database. California alone offered over sixty technical writers. I also located dozens of graphic artists and experienced collectors.

And the price is right, with as short a commitment as one week. This one week resume database search costs $14, a one month fee is $48, 3 months $138, 6 months $268, and 12 months is a low $488. Oh, you don't need a credit card - they will invoice you!

The feature I really liked about this site is the ease with which you can contact a candidate. When you find a resume that fits your needs you just click on that person's email address and it prefills a message from you, complete with salutation, your contact information and your URL. You also have the option to rewrite this message prior to sending it. Let's keep an eye on this site to see if their InstaPost and InstaHire job posting options mirror the ease of their current job candidate search and contact.

www.collegerecruiter.com, while offering numerous other features including job posting (we'll take a look in an upcoming issue), includes a resume bank of 140,000+ candidates. This site claims to be "highest traffic, non-password protected, job site targeted to students and recent graduates." The reason they attract so many job search candidates may be the wealth of information they offer to students - articles on writing resumes, interviewing, relocating, salary, internships and continuing education. While any job posting package includes resume database access you can also choose from resume-only offers: 30 days for $125, 90 days for $295, 6 months for $495 and one year for $895.
