Recognition, Recognition, Recognition

One of the greatest advantages to Internet recruitment, as opposed to print media, is that the volume of your words or the size of your art does not determine the cost of your message. Almost invariably you can say or show as much as you wish in each ad without incurring any change in price. Newspaper advertising, in contrast, is charged by size. A 4x5 display ad, for instance, is twice the cost of the smaller 2x5 ad.

What this means for you, the recruiter, is that those secondary messages you would normally exclude from your newspaper advertising - details of perks and benefits, testimonials by satisfied employees, photographs, etc. - can, and should, be included in your Internet message. In industries and positions that struggle to compete for a limited number of qualified candidates, this feature may be just the 'ticket' to make your firm's job opportunity 'stand out from the crowd.'

One additional point to this opportunity is that recruitment sites generally offer, some for no additional charge, the opportunity to link to your own firm's site. For this reason it is vital to use your firm's web site as an innovative, inviting, positive, clear and well-organized recruitment message.

One of the best examples of a site delivering a positive recruitment/ work-environment message can be seen at http://www.artlogic.com/careers/careers.html. Although this firm, California's high-tech Art & Logic, is a little different than typical in that its employees all work at home, its site is still a great example of how you can deliver effective 'warm and fuzzies' to your potential employees.

(And don't forget that your newspaper message can also lead people to your web site by simply including your URL. While it is not an immediate link it certainly should never be excluded.)

Let's look at some of the recognition opportunities by the various recruitment sites:

JobOptions.com - Along with the free-of-charge inclusion of your logo and site link in your ad, this site offers 'Sponsorships' for an additional cost. You choose the page or site on which you would like your logo or banner ad displayed (which will immediately take viewers to your site). Some of the various page sites available: associations such as the American Trucking Association, the Business Women's Network of Associations, media sites such as Suburban Chicago Newspapers, GoErie.com, diversity sites such as JobCityUSA and AtlantaTribune.com, young professional sites such as World Organization of WebMasters, and industry-specific URLs such as health care, high-tech and sales and marketing.
