Hamburgers have been loved by all for ages! Below are some alternatives to the basic burger-in-a-bun we all know so well!

The Classic Burger

4 kaiser rolls, split
1/4 cup each, ketchup and mayonnaise
4 lettuce leaves
4 slices tomato
4 cooked hamburger patties (cooking instructions below)
4 slices Cheddar, American, Monterey Jack, or Colby cheese
8 pickle slices
4 slices red onion (optional)

Brown kaiser rolls in oven or over grill.

Mix ketchup and mayonnaise in a small bowl. Spread desired amount onto to the bottoms of each roll.

Top bottoms of rolls with lettuce, tomato, hamburgers, cheese, pickles, and onions. Cover with tops of buns.

FUN ALTERNATIVES!

CALIFORNIA BURGERS: whole wheat bun, pepper jack cheese, tomato, lettuce and mayonnaise.

MEXICAN BURGERS: salsa, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, olives, taco seasoning sprinkled in the hamburger meat.

HAWAIIAN BURGERS: Mozzarella cheese, pineapple, and Canadian Bacon slices.

COOKING HAMBURGER PATTIES:

Shape 1 1/2 lbs. of thawed hamburger meat into four 3/4 inch thick patties. Sprinkle with seasoning salt, if desired. Place burgers on lighty greased grill for 5 minutes. Flip over and cook other side for 7-9 minutes, or until no longer pink in the middle.

If panfrying, cook on medium heat for 6-9 on each side, or until no longer pink in the middle.
