Sporting Themes

My own son, Trevor, is 11 years old and loves reading books with sporting themes. I interviewed him about why he enjoys them so much and I've summed up his response here. Why Trevor liked reading books on basketball: the fact the stories are set in basketball, his chosen sport; he picked up tips for his own game; the characters tried to win, they didn't just plomp around the court (as his coach says). He reads and recommends Dean Hughes excellent books.

There are endless kinds of sports to read about these days. If they play the game, it's likely someone has written a story or non-fiction book about it. Look first into the games they play and enjoy watching, branching out from there. Try these suggested titles also:
Home Run : The Story of Babe Ruth
Cheer USA: Ready, Shoot, Score!
Hoops
Balancing Act
