Richard Dawkins (interview with Sheena McDonald, August 1994) How therefore should we determine self-meaning ? Right action is another form of knowledge. Given this, it follows that we must doubt our actions just as we would any statement. Being mindful of our actions, necessarily entails being mindful of the meaning and purpose we assign ourselves, explicitly or not. Our deeds determine us as much as we determine our deeds. It seems reasonable to posit that there is a necessary correlation between the meaninglessness of religious language and existential meaninglessness. How can an anti-Reason and anti-reality attitude yield any meaningfulness to our daily lives ? A rational system of thought, based on Reason and semantical meaningfulness, should - must - yield meaningful applications. By using our flourishing capacities in the manner of our choice, we can effect a much more profound ethical and spiritual context for our selves than religious thought could ever construct for us.
