Women:

Chlamydia (NGU) Sexually transmitted microorganisms cause chlamydia. An estimated three million Americans get chlamydia infections each year, making it three times more common that gonorrhea and thirty times more common than syphilis. Chlamydia may infect both men and women. It is thought to be a major cause of non-gonococcal urethritis, cervicitis, and various pelvic infections. It is spread during vaginal, anal and oral sexual contact with someone who is infected. Chlamydia infected mothers may also transmit the disease to a baby during childbirth. Infected men and women may lose the ability to have children. Women: ~Discharge from the vagina ~Bleeding from the vagina between periods ~Burning or pain during urination ~Pain in abdomen, sometimes with fever and nausea Men: ~Watery, white or yellow drip from penis ~Pain in abdomen, sometimes with fever and nausea D. Genital Warts Genital warts can be spread during vaginal, anal, and oral sexual contact with someone who is infected. The warts may go away without intervention, remain unchanged or grow and spread. An infected mother may pass on genital warts to her baby during childbirth. ~Symptoms show up 1-8 months after contact with HPV, the virus that cause the genital warts ~The warts are small and bumpy patches found on the sex organs and anus ~Itching and/or burning may occur around the sex organs ~After the warts go away, the virus stays in the body. The warts can come back. E. Herpes (Type I and II) Herpes is spread during vaginal, anal and oral sexual contact with someone who is infected. Herpes cannot be cured. An infected mother can give herpes to her child during childbirth. Both herpes types can cause lesions in the oral and/or genital areas. ~Symptoms show up 1-30 days after having sexual contact with an infected person ~Some people have no symptoms ~Infected persons may have flu-like symptoms ~Small, painful blisters on the sex organs or mouth may appear ~Blisters may last 1-3 weeks ~Blisters may go away, but the infected person will still have herpes. The blisters may return time and again. F. Vaginitis Vaginitis is spread during vaginal, anal and oral sexual contact with infected persons. Men can carry vaginitis infections without symptoms. Men who are infected can obtain further infections in the penis, prostrate gland or urethra. ~Some women have no symptoms. ~Itching, burning or pain in the vagina |
