Back to Basics

Phew!! It's been a long, hot summer -- not just here in Texas, but in many parts of the country. There are still wildfires raging in the Western United States, and many areas are still in periods of drought. But that was last month's article. This month, I thought I'd get back to basics and look at a few cattle-related sites online. Maurenne Griese, fellow Suite 101 contributing editor, e-mailed me and told me about her site, "Tails of a Bovine Midwife" which I am happy to add to my list of links. Maurenne not only offers practical information about calving at her site, she also has a very human, maternal view of the process. And raising cattle isn't nearly as enjoyable if you're not emotionally involved. I also found a good online newspaper called Cattle Today. It's got a ton of links and a good selection of articles on various cattle-related topics. This month, I also stumbled across an interesting piece of industry news; the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association has introduced a new Internet marketing resource for its members. Read a press release about it at Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. I'm afraid that's all the news for this month. On a personal note, my husband just bought a building in downtown Seguin, and we've been busy trying to restore it and get it up to snuff, so I've been a little bit pressed for time this month (sorry to everyone who e-mailed me and hasn't heard back yet; I've been doing physical labor in a building that's probably older than you and me put together). Until next month, keep the herds happy, and keep your prayers going for good weather.
