Don't Get Tangled In the Web

I've been thinking about my mission with this Web page -- to bring the traditional occupation of ranching and the new technology of the Internet together -- and I've realized I've only gone about that mission one way.

If my lengthy list of ranching-related Web sites hasn't convinced you that ranchers can use the Internet to learn, expand and communicate, probably nothing will. That much I've accomplished. What I have yet to do is try to make ranchers more comfortable with the Internet itself.

This month, I went in search of a few sites that offer Internet help -- tips for people who have just gotten online and aren't quite sure how to surf through all the information out there to find what they want. If you've managed to find your way to my page, you're in luck, because I've just added "Internet Help" to my link categories.

I didn't find a whole lot of help sites this month, but I will continue to look for the good ones and list them at this page. The best site I found for Internet beginners is "Creativegood.com's" Internet help page. This is a site I'd direct my mother to if she wanted to learn about the Internet. Everything is written in plain English so if you don't know the technical terms, you won't get lost. There are more than 70 columns at creativegood.com about all kinds of Internet topics. Most of the columns deal with search engines, which makes sense, since that's how most people start looking for what they want online.

So if you're feeling a little lost about what to do online, visit the Creativegood.com site or check out the other sites listed under "Internet Help" on this page. They'll point you in the right direction.

Until next month, keep your hay dry and your fields watered.
