Unbelievable!

We had an unsettling experience the other day. Two young teenage boys came onto our property and went up our steps, reached for the doorknob and my husband caught them. The claimed to be looking for the price of our pumpkins ( we own a garden center ).

After he told them that the pumkins were not located in our private residence, the went to the pumpkin display and tottered around trying to be inconspicuous.

Along comes our neighbor in his car and looking very angry. He says the boys just vandalized our third neigbors house and they happened to see them actually doing it! The boys ran over to our house when the neighbor confronted them.

To make a long story short, they were arrested for the teeny tiny amount of time that juviniles are, and as they were driven downtown, they began puking whiskey in the officer's car. How nice.

Here is where it gets really interesting. Two days later, one of the boy's father comes to our store to *talk* about the incident. He asks Cal what happened and when Cal said they were trying to get into our house, the father interrupts and says,"How do you know they weren't trying to ring the doorbell"?

When told how the boys went onto the neighbor's porch, by climbing over two fences to get there, tore down two wind chimes and took off his shirt to hide them in, the father says " my son says that he was just flicking the windchimes and they fell. He got scared ". Scared indeed!!

Not only am I upset that these two kids even raised hell like this, I am saddened that the father took such a ridiculous stance about the whole situation. It is not surprising that the boys could find interest in doing this type of thing. There was no repercussion for them. The actually had been arrested just two days prior for vandalism and drinking, yet here they were, able to do it once again.

My boys are certainly not angels but if they did anything like what these two guys did, I would NOT be out trying to lay blame on the powers that be and letting my son off with a *discussion* about how it was naughty.

Yeesh, I am angry..
