You knew this was going to be a holiday themed article didn't you? I waited to write something because I really wanted to experience Thanksgiving with the boys first. This was the first year that N could follow a calendar himself and he was aware of when the holiday was coming. G was old enough for the first time to participate in the round robin game/blessing of *what are you thankful for?* that we have always done before we eat. Here are some gems:
What are you thankful for?: N: flies because frogs eat them(how nice at the dinnertable) G: Turkey N: Bugs G: Swanson(I will have you know that swanson is the household name for gravy-of which I make from scratch..I have gotten used to it) N: The gerbils G: rolls!! (shouted exhuberantly, while waving said roll) As you can see, two kids with two trains of thought, eating and entertaining the older folk who were suggesting the old standby thankful items like family, health, friends..how boring. The adults were thankful to have make it through another year and the kids were just thankful for the little critters that entertain them throughout the year. Funny that. It was one of the nicest Thanksgivings that I have ever experienced in my 31 years on this earth for the simple reason that my sons were there to keep me grounded. No stress over lumpy gravy, potatoes that were just not ready on time or if there was enough squash..They saw perfectly cooked food of the tastiest sort, *tons* of it to quote one of them. They ooohed and aaahhed over every dish and even braved a taste of squash. Very honest little guys and all the more enjoyable because they were so open to simply enjoying the day. It was just such a good day. The gushing mom. HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!! Go To Page: 1
