Slugs!!

With warmer weather comes outdoor activities. Outdoor activities means interaction with other kids...We have been rainy and muddy here, in central NY, but occasionally if you scoot out quickly, you have time to hit the playground or park before the next deluge.

I am not a neat person. I just don't have much of a problem with messes. They are made and they get picked up. I find it odd that at said playgrounds mothers will chase their children around keeping them from touching, kneeling, walking in, or otherwise coming in any kind of contact with mud or wetness.

Why would you bring your child to a playground after 2 weeks of rain if you were going to have a hernia if he got damp? I don't *get* that.

Back to the story, Nathanial was in slug heaven today at the damp playground. He found one that was, I swear, over an inch long and as thick as one of my fingers....eeeewwww...but he was being gentle and explaining to all the little kids what he knew about slugs and their habits. The mothers soon caught on to what the cluster of children was all about. Well, let me just say that they were horrified that I was allowing Nathanial to touch a dirty slug. How could I? What kind of germs does a slug have and now they are on his hands!! Yikes, as if water didn't exist! Heck, I was willing to empty my sport bottle so he could use it to store some dirt and slugs in while he searched. I guess that is just too much for the pristine hands of other children...sigh, if they only knew what their children touched with out their knowing...

hee hee...
