What benefit does public schooling have for our boys?

In the great debate of public vs. home schooling, the subject of socialization seems to be the biggest topic. Recently, in a chat, the question came up of how do your boys learn to be around other children if they are always at home with you?

I think that the term *home* schooling is not really accurate. If you are a homeschooling family then chances are that you are not actually HOME much of the time. We are at playgroups, lessons, museums, hiking, camping, covering various news stories, etc. all of the time. my sons have to interact and see me interacting with all ages, situations and styles of people. I think that is more realistic as an example of real life.

I dont think that it is natural for children to be herded together with each other based on age and expected to socialize or be ostracized. I also dont think that it is natural for an adult to have to come up with a plan to teach so many different minds the exact same thing at the same level and intensity. All this based on some high mucky muck's opinion of what makes a well rounded student.

I also think that children learn to be aggressive in largely unsupervised groups like public schooling offers. I dont feel that it would be condusive for my son's education to be bullied or even taught to become a bully in order to not be critisized.

There is nothing positive in public schooling that cannot be found in a homeschooling atmosphere.

What do you all think?
