A Rabbit’s Christmas: a guest column by Eve Bunny

As we hop into the new millennium, we hope everybunny (and other species, too) had as great a holiday as we did. Lilith and I were expecting a good year this Christmas since we'd been on our very best behavior for several days during the Christmas shopping season.

We'd spent hours toasting in front of our favorite radiator cooking up our wish list, and I'm happy to say we got just about everything on it. Top on our list, as always, was lots more cartons like we got last year. Usually they come with something inside - computers, coffee makers, CD players and stuff like that - but once the stuffings are removed there's no end of fun things to do with cartons! Lilith prefers sitting on top of them where she can get a different perspective on things, plus it's cool to hop off for a sneak attach on anybunny who may be strolling by below (me!).

Here she's posing on her favorite Apple computer carton (she likes to think different).

Personally, I prefer sitting inside them. It's a private little hideaway where I can escape from the hustle and bustle of our busy home office. And when I need a bit of physical activity, and a new escape route, I can just tear out a new doorway. Construction work is creative and fun and has the added benefit of annoying our Mom with all the noise and messy shredded cardboard. Here you can see me exploring the possibilities of this small carton Mom gave us. It's a tight fit, but with opens at both ends it makes a nifty tunnel.

We got several more of those fun toss toys that come wrapped in rolls of colorful paper. Mom cleverly used the paper to wrap around boxes she was giving to other people then gave us the cardboard tubes. We don't have any photos to illustrate the best ways to play with these toss toys, so Lilith can't prove that I fell over backwards twice trying to stand up and toss the tube "endwise." Anyway, she didn't look so graceful trying to grab the tube in the middle with her front paws!

Of course, we were hoping for more of the delicious banana chips we found in our stockings last year, too, but we hope for them every day. And, in fact, we get them in our food dish a couple times a week, but it was still nice to get an extra helping on Christmas morning. I ate most of them but left one for Lilith. I was feeling the holiday spirit of sharing.
