Christmas Ideas for Rabbits

The holiday season is a wonderful time to relax and spend time with your family, and to celebrate all that we have to be thankful for. This includes our faithful pets. There are many different ways to honor your pet this season. Be sure to include your rabbits in the celebration. After all, they're part of the family, too!

Thanksgiving

For Thanksgiving, make up a special plate of vegetable treats so your bunny can share the feast. The plate should contain predominantly dark green, leafy vegetables such as kale, mustard greens, romaine lettuce, etc. Use whatever your rabbit's personal favorites are. Add in a couple of dried cranberries and walnuts for a treat. VĂ³ila! A feast for a rabbit king. Be sure to serve the feast plate as your human family sits down to dinner so your pet feels included in the event.

It is tempting to go overboard and provide a large spread of treats, but this can easily upset a rabbit's delicate digestion. Stay away from starchy foods like crackers and cereal. Spread the goodies out over the entire holiday season so bunny doesn't overindulge. They don't have any more willpower than we do!

Holiday Gift Ideas

Rabbits like presents just as much as humans. In fact, they enjoy being the center of attention, and playing with boxes and paper. There are several web sites offering a huge variety of gift items, both for rabbits and their humans.

The Busy Bunny (www.busybunny.com) specializes in edible gift baskets for rabbits. There are many to choose from and all at a reasonable price. Baskets come filled with hay, pine cones, peanuts, toast, twigs, and lots more. After your rabbit consumes the contents, they can eat the basket! Providing your rabbit with a safe, healthy diversion can help prevent chewed cords, carpet, and furniture, and provides mental and physical stimulation so essential to their well-being.

Bunny Heaven (www.bunnyheaven.com) is another fun place to shop. They have several lines of house wares, clothing, and jewelry all adorned with rabbits. Bunny Bytes (www.bunnybytes.com), Thumper's Hollow (www.thumpershollow.com), and Bunny Luv (www.bunnyluv.com) are other shops you might explore. They have everything from carrot earrings to bunny bungalows.

Oxbow Hay (www.oxbowhay.com) provides nutritious, high quality hay year round, but it makes a nice gift, too. All packages are hand packed with care. They also have a tasty basket of dried herbs for bunnies, bottles of papaya tablets, supplements for healthy coats, and much more.
