There are so many great, new rabbit products coming out that this month’s column will again focus on what’s new in the rabbit world.

Multimedia Rabbit CD

David and Joyce Weaver of the Buckeye chapter (http://www.ohare.org) of the House Rabbit Society (http://www.rabbit.org) have developed a multimedia CD about rabbits and their health. The CD includes over 150 photos and video clips of nail trimming, thumping, grooming, and binkying (happy dancing). Topics include rabbit language, litterbox training, essential supplies, diet, care, common health problems, toys, breed descriptions, and even a screen saver. To learn more, go to http://www.multimediarabbit.com. The CD can be ordered online for $39.95. At this time, it is only available for PC.

Testimony for the rabbit CD:

"A useful introduction to the basics of house rabbit husbandry. The information provided is concise and easy to follow." - Dr. Robert Nathan, DVM

"Multimedia Rabbit is extremely easy to install and simple to use. It covers the basics of rabbit care, including ‘How to’ videos." - Kristen Doherty, Instructional Designer/Software Applications Trainer, house rabbit owner

"A fun and easy way for the novice rabbit owner to familiarize him/herself to the basics of rabbit husbandry and health." - Dr. Stephen Faust, DVM

Emergency House Stickers

Petlabels.com is selling personalized emergency house stickers with a picture and the name of your pet. The stickers are laminated and come in sets of three. This is an excellent safety precaution in case emergency personnel have to locate your pet in a disaster. Pets may be hard to find and rescue if they hide, or are concealed by smoke or darkness. A descriptive photo will make finding your pet that much easier. Cost for one set is $6.50. The order form can be found at http://www.petlabels.com/orderform.htm. You can also order return address labels with a picture of your pet. 150 labels cost $10 or get 450 for $25.

New Pellet Formula

Oxbow Hay Company (http://www.oxbowhay.com) has developed Bunny Basics 15/23, an alfalfa based, complete rabbit pellet that is formulated for the younger pet rabbit. These pellets are high in fiber (23%), low in protein (15%), and low in calcium and fat. Bunny Basics was originally designed to be a maintenance diet for the house/pet rabbit, but additional field research and feedback from veterinarians have shown that this is an ideal diet for the young growing rabbit as well. Cost for a five pound sack is $3.19 (not including shipping).

Next month we’ll look at gift ideas for rabbits and their humans.
