A Few Gift Ideas . . . . . . .

For that quilting friend, or maybe for yourself, here are a few items that any quilter, beginner or seasoned, might enjoy.

BOOKS

Iron-On Transfers for Quilt Labels - Barbara Baatz, 1999,American School of Needlework

Quilter's Complete Guide - Fons and Porter, 1995, Leisure Arts
Everything from a basic primer, simple patterns and some more difficult.

Bargello Quilts - Marge Edie, 1994, That Patchwork Place
Learn to make this beautiful style of quilt. Advanced.

A New Slant on Bargello - Edie, 1998, That Patchwork Place
Learn to make bargello on the slant. Quite advanced!

Loving Stitches - Jeana Kimball, 1993, That Patchwork Place
A guide to learning the quilting stitch, also some basic quilting designs.

TOOLS

  • Quilters Rule - 6 1/2 by 24 inchs plastic rule with raised grid on the back
  • Square rulers - 12 inch square with bias line
  • 6 1/2 inch square with bias lines
  • Ruler with 1/8 inch increments
  • Marking pencil - Any thin lead .05 mechanical pencil Always sharp, and the thread covers the marking lines
  • A good supply of curved quilters safety pins for that quilter who always has 2 or 3 quilts underway
  • Sharpener for rotary blades - Blades can be sharpened several
    times, represents quite a saving over a few years of quilt making, and you don't have to rush out to buy a new blade in the middle of a cutting operation.

MISCELLANEOUS
  • Subscription to a quilting magazine - or - just the current copy of one she does not subscribe to.
  • Fat Quarters - you know what they are - find some of the millennium fabrics that are a fad this year and buy several
  • Fabric Crayons - and the directions on how to use them!
  • Quilt Labels and a fabric pen
  • Gift certificates for fabric - or a quilt class
  • Scissors - catch a sale and get a really GOOD pair
  • Assortment of colors of cotton quilting thread
  • See-thru bobbin storage box

There is a broad price range in the above list. Some items are relatively inexpensive ($5.00 or less) and others a bit more. These are suggestions for the beginner as well as an advanced quilter. If you browse through a fabric store, or an on-line fabric shop, you will find these items and many more. Happy shopping !
