Distinct Breed

What is a breed? Author Bragg puts the question more precisely, "what are the necessary conditions that enable us to say with conviction, this group of animals constitutes a distinct breed?" In this lengthy article the questions of blood lines, stud books and inbreeding are tackled. The controversial position on genetic faults opens a rift in the breeding world. For purposes of this column a breed is a canine that can trace it's ancestry through 3 generations of registered parents.
