There are many things you can use punchneedle for, and many ways to use the needle!
A few ideas- Trim sheers for your windows with a floral design- just use a stabilizer to draw your design on, baste the stabilizer onto the sheers, put them in a hoop, and punch away! The neat thing is you will have a beautiful design on both sides of the sheers. You can also use that idea for panels in the floor screens I have seen for sale in stores. With a screen, you can make the design continue from panel to panel, and since you are making your own design, it will fit right in your color scheme. For big panels like that, I would use the large size needle. Since Christmas is coming, here are a few ideas to get started on now- A wreath- Pick out your fabric, draw the wreath on it, but don't cut it out yet! Leave the cutting out until you are through punching, so it will be easier to hold it in a hoop. You can use cookie cutters for patterns, or pictures from children's coloring books, for example. Remember you will be working from the back, so 'flip' the design accordingly. After punching, cut the wreath out, cut out another for the back, sew them together right sides facing, leave a hole for turning, turn them rightside out, stuff, and there you go! You can even put some potpourri inside to make it more Christmasy! (Is that a word???) Speaking of cookie cutters and coloring books- you can easily use them to make ornaments to hang from the tree. Just trace them onto the back of your fabric, punch, embellish as desired, then you can do a few things- back them with fabric (using technique described above in the wreath) or you can put them on cardboard, using a little batting or filler to give a 3D effect, and use glitter on the back of the cardboard, or cover the back with construction paper- make sure you remember to add a piece of thread for a hanger!!! Using your computer, you can scan in a design, minimize it, then print it out. Using it, you can punch the design, mount it on cardboard, cover the back, and add a pin from the craft store, and you have your own unique Christmas pin or brooch! These make great teacher gifts. I hope this gives you some ideas- if you think of something creative, please let me know!! Go To Page: 1
