Using Punchneedle to Embellish a quilt

© Libby Magnello

My local quilt guild had a challenge for the quilt show this year- the challenge was to use the following in a quilt, in any manner--

basket, applique, yellow, blue.

Being a Crazy Quilter, not a 'sane' quilter, when they said "basket" all I could come up with was a picnic basket! So from there, I made the following quilt.

To see the quilt and closeups of it, go to: http://www.Angelfire.com/tx/Mansion/hope...

The tree, swan, and pussywillows are all punchneedled. Also, in the distance to the left, along the ridge of the mountains, you can see an outline of punchneedled trees, and on either side of the cottage I used silk threads to punch loops, cut them off at the top to make moss.

The design for the tree will be in the upcoming issue of Quilting Arts magazine. http://www.quiltingarts.com/

This quilt won first place in the Challenge Category, by the way! :-)
