Rug Hooking EtcLibby- Let's welcome Tanya! Hi Tanya! Nice to have you here!! You have a nice web site (link is at the end of the article!) do you own a real shop? Tanya- My husband and I own the rug hooking shop together, Libby. Libby- Does he punch rugs, too? Tanya- Yes -- we both do the rug hooking with the punch needle. We really enjoy doing this craft and like creating new and unique pieces. Libby- How did you get started? Tanya- My mother in law got me started with this craft, she brought it down from Vermont. Libby- Gosh, that is great! Now you have a family tradition you can hand down from generation to generation. How long have you been punching? Tanya- I have been rug hooking for about 5 years. Libby- Gosh! I am SUCH a newbie! Do you have kits or patterns or both? Tanya- We offer all of our patterns as kits. Our best kits are our starter kits. A few popular starter kits are our magnolia starter kit, watermelon starter kit, fleur de lis starter kit and apple. However, all the kits are fun and people love to work the kits. Libby- Do the kits have wool strips or yarn? Tanya- We recommend the rug yarn, and that is all we carry. The rug yarn is very forgiving, you really cannot mess these rugs up. The yarn moves a lot faster than pulling up each strip at a time and have to cut each piece. Libby- Yes, that makes sense! What king of yarn is it? Tanya- We carry Paternayan Rug Yarn, it is 100% virgin wool, moth proofed, color fasted and hand dyed. Rug Yarn is wonderful to work with and many colors to choose from. We have a sample clipping color card available. Using the punch needle rug hooking is simple, there is only one eye to thread the rug yarn through and you punch the needle up and down through the monk's cloth backing. All patterns are hand drawn onto the monk's cloth. All loops will be uniform on front side of your rug. Rug hooking is easy to learn and fun to do. These rugs and projects will last for generations and make wonderful heirlooms. We have great starter kits to begin with, these make wonderful pillows. Other project ideas are wall hangings, stair runners, holiday ornaments, brick door stop covers, stockings, bench cover, chair pads and more. We offer the blank monk's cloth for you to draw your own ideas - it is very simple. Email us with any questions or call us, we are here to help.
