Our First ProjectOK! Are you ready? We are going to PUNCH!! This is a small easy design that can be used in a number of ways: 1. As a decoration on a special handtowel, or a linen towel. Make sure there is a band for needlework on the towel. 2. As an applique onto any finished item such as a blouse, shirt, tea cozy, placemat, napkin, or a little bag filled with goodies for 'drop in' guests... 3. As an embellishment patch for crazy quilting, or other projects. 4. Anything else you can think of! First you need to print out the design- you can take it to any copy machine at enlarge or reduce it to fit your needs. You can also open your word processor on your computer, and type anything you want, such as 'HAPPY THANKSGIVING' or 'HAPPY HOLIDAYS', then print it out and use it for a pattern. http://www.angelfire.com/ct2/punchneedle/ Go there to get the design that you can print out. WHAT YOU NEED- 1. Think of what you want to use your design for and choose the appropriate material. 2. Gather your supplies - don't forget the gripper hoop! Think if the hoop will distort your chosen material- if it will, you may want to make the design on a good quality muslin, and use it as an applique. 3. Print the design out. 4. Transfer the design to your fabric- remember the design is going on the back of your material, so it will point the opposite way once it is flipped over. Make sure it is pointing in the direction you want it to! 5. Put the material in the hoop, and stretch it as tight as you can. 6. Prepare your pne (punchneedle)- get it threaded with the thread you have picked to do your outline with. If you have two punchneedles, you can thread one with the outline thread, and the other with the filler thread. 7. Start to punch! HOW TO PUNCHWORK THE DESIGN----- 1. After preparing your punchneedle, using the smallest loop size, outline each area of the design. You can add detials, like making some of the outline color go in the wings to add the look of individual feathers. 2. When you are through outlining, move the needle loop size up one size. Leave it there for all the rest of the filling in work. Punch in the design area by following the shape of the design- don't go back and forth or up and down in straight lines.
