Some good sources for designs are coloring books, and the Dover books. You can even see designs on the internet and draw upon them for inspiration. Free form designs make some of the prettiest I have done.
There are many different ways to make use of the beautiful motifs you can make with your punch needle! There are many different ways of using the needle.
If you are crazy quilting, and the design on the material shows through onto the back, you can use the punch needle to highlight the design. Punch needle work really adds dimension and beauty to blue jean jackets, as well as linen blouses. From table runners to bell pulls, to framed works of art, punch needles is as versatile as it is easy.
The designs that you make with your needle can be attached to any surface, you do not have to punch directly on the surface you want to decorate. You can make your design on a 'punch friendly' fabric, cut it out, and then apply it to the surface you are working on.
Did you know that punch needle can even be used to make rugs! Yes, it can, with a special large needle! That is something that I will be learning, and I will share with you as I experiment.
I hope that I can share my love for this art form well enough to make you 'catch the bug'! It is a joy to do, easy and fast, takes little in the way of set up, and can reward you with items to enjoy for years to come.
