Anso Comfort Capsules, which were sold by Arcadia, California-based NuMeridian via telephone and mail order, have been recalled by order of the FDA. This recall is effective immediately and is believed to be a Class I recall. The dietary supplement, which is NOT regulated by the FDA (dietary supplements or herbal preparations as they are better known as, are not regulated) has been found to contain the prescription drug Librium. Librium is a sedative, is available by prescription only and will interact with alcohol as well as many prescription medications.
As of today, one woman has been hospitalized due to interactions with her prescriptions. She is expected to recover.
The company also appears to have violated other law by claiming this supplement can be used for the treatment of several illnesses. It is illegal for a supplement to claim anything other that they help maintain a certain function of the body.
The ingredients for this drug were imported from China and were assembled in the United States. If you have any of this product in your house, contact your physician immediately. Do not dispose of the bottle, but be sure to give it to your physician.
