Johnson also sandwiches the story between a description of a gathering of old classmates and then a "discussion" they have about the story afterward. He tries to have the story grow organically from this gathering of classmates, but the framing technique seems contrived, as does the dialogue between the classmates. The story, which Johnson claims can be read in under an hour, is simple enough to understand without dredging through the introduction before or the discussion afterward.

Like most parables, the story is simple, as is the message of the story. And though there is often strong truth in the simplest of statements, I wonder if Who Moved My Cheese? is really so tremendous a story that companies such as Dell, General Motors, Time Warner and Blue Cross are adopting it as a guidebook to change for their employees.
