In other words, Fowler and those who came before him recognize that faith is the most basic of human experiences. Regardless of one's religious orientation (or lack thereof), the dynamics of faith are the same. Faith is what aligns the individual's will with his values, directs his efforts, and gives purpose and meaning to his life.
