The history of the talking board goes way back in history. In 551 BC, the Chinese used instruments similar to the Ouija board to communicate with the dead. About 540 BC, it is said that Pythagorus used a similar device during seances to contact the spirits. In fact, throughout history there are periodical mentions of the magic board, including use of it by the Romans in the Third Century A.D. and the Mongols in the Thirteenth Century. In the mid eighteen hundreds, Europe and used a planchette for automatic writing. The Ouija board as we know it today was invented by an American, Elijah Bond in 1892. William Fuld bought Bond's patent of the device and did all the development so Fuld and not Bond is known as the Father of the Ouija. In 1966, Fuld sold the patent to Parker Brothers. Then Parker Brothers Game Company still owns the patent and markets the Ouija board as a game for entertainment purposes only. But is it just a game? Documented examples of the power of the Ouija board include: (1)Pearl Curran, (scroll down) in 1913, using a Ouija board, came in contact with Patience Worth who claimed to be from seventeenth century England. (2)Stewart Edward White and his wife, Betty, in 1919, using the board, discovered a group of spirits who referred to themselves as "the Invisibles." (3) More recently, in 1963, the Ouija board put Jane Roberts in contact with an entity called Seth, whose prophetic words are recorder in the Seth books, written, of course, by Jane Roberts. On the other side of the crystal ball, of course, we have the skeptics like the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal and Good News who claim the Ouija board either has no powers or is a dangerous device that can cause serious personality conflicts. Be sure to read both sides of the story before you decide what to believe. Instructions for the safest way of using the board can be found at NewAge On-Line Australia. Try the Virtual Board.
