The Age of Aquarius

This, according to the Fifth Dimension and the musical Hair, is the Dawning of the Age of Aquarius. The cast of Hair sang this song way back in the sixties. However, the dates cited below vary in their belief of just when this "Dawning" takes place.

Samael Aun Weor, Founder of the Gnostic Movement, places the date thirty seven years ago, on February 4, 1962, when almost all the Planets rested in the sign of Aquarius. Other rarities occurred, including both a solar and a lunar eclipse. Astrologer Michael Theissen says the Age was officially ushered in on January 23, 1997. Check out his detailed star chart to see how he arrived at this date.

Others look farther into the future. Naomi Bennett of Access New Age sets the year as 2100 AD. She bases her decision on the procession of the equinoxes which, she explains, puts each age at a cycle of 2,160 years. Garth Allen scoffs at the idea that the Age of Aquarius has already arrived. He also bases his thoughts on the vernal equinox and claims the Aquarian Age won't begin until the year 2376 AD. The Rosicrucian Fellowship says we have six centuries to wait -- until 2600 AD.

The First Millennial Foundation calls for a time of peace, kindness and generosity among people. There will be an end to wars, and to poverty.

Astrologers believe the earth passes through one Age (or Astrological sign) about every 2000 years. The Age of Pisces began with the birth of Christ. The symbol for Pisces is two fishes and we find the fish symbol many times in Christianity.

There may be one fly in this ointment of peace. Although Aquarius represents brotherhood and universal love, it is ruled by the tyrant planet Uranus. Uranus is a disrupter, a rebel. It shakes things up and transforms everything it touches. Earth changes are under the jurisdiction of Uranus, including hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes. This seems to fit in better with many of the Millennium ideas.

Things may happen suddenly and without warning under the influence of Uranus. This Planet can shock, wake up all the senses or start a revolution.

But there is another side to Uranus. Astrologers call it the Planet of the Future. It has dominion over electricity and science, invention and things unorthodox. It is, in fact, the Planet of the New age. So, under it's influence, we could see
