Review of The Millennium Book of Prophecy
Author - John Hogue
Publisher - Harper Collins

This is a fascinating and a frightening book. These are prophecies that have come down from the ancients as well as prophecies from seers who live in modern times. They come from all over the world and from a variety of cultures. And yet, despite these differences in time, in place and in culture, the prophecies bear a startling similarity to each other.

From the archaic past come words of prophets unknown. Some of these words are still visible, carved into the walls of the Great Pyramid. Some are taken from the visions of the Sybilline Oracles, including the Oracle at Delphi. John Hogue also uses quotes from both Buddha and Mohammed.

Biblical prophets have spoken and their words have been recorded on the pages of this book. Daniel, Ezekial, Isaiah, Zachariah and many minor prophets are mentioned. And, of course, there is St. John of Padua who is credited with having written the Book of Revelation.

J. Krishnamurti, south Indian mystic, talks about his prophetic view of the future. Tibet is well represented by psychic astrologers and several of the Dalai Lama, including the present, and by his own prophecy, the last in the lineage.

Madame Blavatsky, Russian occultist and founder of the Theosophical Society, had her own theories about the future, as did the Mad Monk of Russia, Rasputin.

Nostradamus of France is one of the best known European prophets. The British Isles produced several, including St. Malachy, from eleventh century Ireland, Mother Shipton, and Cheiro. "Cheiro" was the pseudonym of an English count.

Aboriginal people have their own beliefs and their own prophecies about the future, albeit running parallel to all other beliefs. They are well represented in Mr. Hogue's book from the ancient Mayans and their prophetic calendar to Black Elk, a shaman of the Sioux tribe. Hopi Elders claim that if man digs precious metals from the ground, then mankind will perish. Uranium and other metals are being mined today on Hopi sacred soil. The Hopi prophecy is echoed by an ancient prophecy of the aboriginal people of Australia that portends doom for this same misdeed. Again, there is mining going on in the Land Down Under.

America has a history rife with prophets, from Molly Pitcher in the 1700s to Edgar Cayce and the more modern seers like Jeanne Dixon, Ruth Montgomery and Irene Hughes.
