Year of the Rabbit/Year of the Dragon.

The Year of the Rabbit

Chinese New Year falls on February 16 this year, and, according to Oriental Astrolgy, 1999 is The Year of the Rabbit.

The Rabbit is a timid creature, afraid of his shadow at times, afraid something may jump out and hurt him. He will hide or run from danger if at all possible. He craves safety and security.

Food is important to him, and he makes sure he has an ample supply close to his burrow. Change makes him nervous. He would prefer to always deal with that which is familiar.

This year, we may find many people behaving with rabbit-like timidity. The coming Millennium has folks running scared. They are afraid the world as they know it will cease to exist.

Some people are stockpiling emergency supplies. Others are turning to religion for reassurance that they will survive. The world is in a turmoil and may get worse before the year ends. Yes, the Rabbits are afraid.

The Year of the Dragon

On February 5, 2000 we enter the Year of the Dragon. The Dragon is the only mythical creature in Chinese Astrology, and represents another mythical creature, the Phoenix. The Phoenix, according to Greek mythology, was a bird that lived 500 years, burned itself to death on a funeral pyre, and rose again from the ashes, stronger than before.

The Dragon, Astrology says, believes all things are possible. Is this an indication of things to come in the Year 2000? If so, then the world will destroy itself, rise again from its own ashes, and become a stronger world where all things are possible.

The Year of the Snake

2001 will be the Year of the Snake. If we follow the above chain of thought, this would be the year the world sheds its old skin and renews itself. But I'm hoping that, when the year 2001 rolls around, this old world will still be spinning on its axis, and still look much the same as it does today.

In the meantime, GUNG HAY FAT CHOY! Happy New year, and Make Lots of Money!
