Hush, Zimmermann is here!

Never leave home without one...

Nearly two years ago I wrote an article I gave the cryptic title "j6xW+kJzl7QFt+y". Main focus for the article was a new free online mail service, then still in it's beta development.

Online mail, what kind of news was that you say - lot of them around, and not safe enough - remember HotMail... Okay, but this was HushMail - today the most secure way to send information without having encryption software installed (- who can install a encryption software in an internet cafe when traveling anyway?). If those at home have a HushMail account as well, you are as safe as if you had the best encryption software as PGP or other installed. You can sit in an Internet cafe in New York, Kampala or just at home, sending email while protecting your privacy!

Yes I did mention PGP, the legend in encrypting software - created, and first released by Philip Zimmermann 10 years ago.

Philip Zimmermann has continued to develop PGP since it's release, and when Network Associates acquired his company in 1997 he stayed on as Senior Fellow at NAI (yes, same company with McAfee).

Philip Zimmermann just left NAI and you can find his important statement here. Unlike previous versions, NAI have not yet released full source code for last version of PGP developed at NAI (although Zimmermann ensure it's the most secure version ever developed).

As an online travel agent I relay daily on PGP, as ALL bookings to my company get the full protection of PGP - so this is essential news for travelers and travel professionals alike. Most important to know today is that Philip Zimmermann is launching the OpenPGP Consortium, and will be assisting the makers of HushMail - Hush Communications for future products.

Okay you say, to protect my credit card information - I can understand that, but for more than that it is only criminals and alike who need to send encrypted information? To any who may think so, allow me to quote from Zimmermann's statement:

"PGP was originally designed for human rights applications, and to protect privacy and civil liberties in the information age. By proliferating the OpenPGP standard, we can renew that promise, and continue the commitment to personal privacy that captured the imagination and participation of millions around the world."

This statement is for me giving the best background for a worthy 10 years celebration for Philip Zimmermann and protection of privacy. It's also a strong statement for Open Source development. For HushMail I can only add an equal strong congratulation - it's good to see that the beta I wrote about nearly 2 years ago is considered the leading secure (and free!) online mail service of today.
