Nothing Written in Stone - part 2

First part of this article was about freeware editors. In this part I want to look into the area of SHAREWARE EDITORS.

What is maybe the most important question most of have to ask before purchasing a shareware HTML editor?

Know I would have many suggestions here if I put up a poll - but listen a bit to my question, and I will explain why most should look carefully into answers of this question. The question is:

"What upgrade policy do the editor have?"

I stress on this question as most HTML editors differ from many other shareware program, which have a one-time investment, or just some few upgrades involving extra payment. Fact is that most shareware HTML editors have a quite steep upgrade policy. This mean that most times the editor upgrade, you will have to pay more to be in the race of having the latest version and features! If the site of the editor doesn't specify this policy - send them a mail and ask. If you don't get an answer, my best advise is to look for a different editor!

Back to the editors:

THE KETCHUP AND THE MUG EDITORS

Many highlight of course HotDog and CoffeeCup, and I believe nobody should invest in a top-level editor at least before they also have downloaded and tested these two. Okay, now we are in the upper level of top editors, and what anyone may say here will be at least as much related to what each like or not like - as technical facts itself. This said, I have tested both HotDog and CoffeCup - with the result that I prefer one of them in my mug and the other with ketchup...

40TUDE HTML

My recommendation is rather to go to AceHTML Pro (let's hope they get the spell checker feature corrected for all non MS Office users!) and for an editor most are less familiar with.

This is 40tude HTML.

Have to admit that I totally forgot the program after I had it downloaded, so when I finally remembered it I had not too much of the test period left (that's what can happen when one test too many programs...). Still I had luckily nearly a week left of the trial period - enough to feel safe when I say that I prefer 40tude to both HotDog and CoffeeCup. It's interfase is very easy to work with, and it's spell checker don't have to "kick you" if you write colour and not color.
