The UNFAITHFUL Prince...

from the Kingdom of Communication

Once upon a time there came a new princess called Princess Fax to the Kingdom of Communication. It did not take long time before she had captured the business heart of the prince. Princess Fax soon became Queen Fax, and then they lived happily ever after...

Or did they?

Well at least until Princess E. Mail came around, as even a fairy tale prince can become unfaithful being introduced to such an efficient, feature rich and low cost mistress.

Most know this fairy tale, and I remembered it when I was reading my friend Brian Hughes very interesting article "What's in Another Word". Here Brian talks about Word processors, and the problem of finding "the perfect" freeware word processor. The article made me realise that I myself had totally stopped to use word processors - as all what I write now is with HTML editors!

It is an easy prophecy to say that word processors soon will be as rarely used as fax machines are today. Rather than sending a .doc file as attachment as most do today (or at least did before too many viruses came around) - you send an HTML file or upload the document and write the URL address in the mail.

Same fairy tale, but this time Princess Dot Doc and Princess Ht.M. L.

Let me stress the difference in making an HTML document which you either attach to an email or upload - and to write an HTML email message. Reason is that especially in business it's many that just don't want email messages in HTML. One of the reasons for this is that an email written in HTML is larger than same email sent in plain text. So if one get hundred(s) of mail daily, you can easily imagine the size of backup of email if all are in HTML.

An alternative to sending your HTML document as email attachment or uploading it, is to use the combination of your computer and a service as 24Link. Here you run the HTML document from your own computer and the receiver will find it by the URL address you give. Either between certain hours (when you are online) - or anytime if you have a 24 hour connection. This way you keep the document in your computer and the receiver will be able to read your document directly in his/her browser, save it, read it offline - as print it out.

Will keep all this in mind. I think it's good to learn HTML. Sure has helped me a lot in places. But I like MS-WORD. I'll take bad HTML every day over formatting myself! Quicker. Jerri ...
