Fi Youm, Fi Shuher, Fi Sana...The song sadly mingles with different smells of water pipes in the Egyptian coffee shop where I sit. Here I find them all: an elegant old man with his biblical long dress to the ragged woman selling blessings with her burning incense. In the darkest corner a young Egyptian girl and boy are courting - top university educated and dressed as any of their counterparts in Europe or America. How different they all may look, the song "Fi Youm, Fi Shuher, Fi Sana" have the power of simultaneously decorate these four pair of eyes with small tear-drops. It's Abdel Halim Hafez - the legendary Egyptian singer. Unfortunately he died not much more than forty years of age as bilharzia had infected him in young age. Cameras have captured the millions of people around his coffin as it was carried through the streets of Cairo. In black and white we still can watch one of the girls who committed suicide this day, as she throw herself out from her high window... Abdel Halim's song "Fi Youm, Fi Shuher, Fi Sana" soon became his farewell song - as the title of the song mean "In a Day, a Month, a Year". After more than a decade in this country, this song make also me think about Abdel Halim, his love story and early death. Still, sometimes the song made me think about software!?! Hardly anything can make a travel professional in a more black-and-white-jumping-mood than when "One Day, one Month, one Year" software don't work. Even software of esteemed brands kept crashing, and all my day, month and yearly plans became history. This doesn't happen any more - and I will let you in on a secret and tell you some reasons why.
This is what could be called a diary - but don't think pink plastic cover with a heart and padlock. This is a professional tool even if it don't refuse to keep all your most personal secrets. Better than a padlock is the combination of password protection and automatic encryption every time you save a file. After trying all similar programs I have been able to find, DPS Journal is the only journal program I today bother to use. Reason for this is that the combination of usability and flexibility make it superior for both a daily notebook as to add and maintain a huge day to day database. DPS Journal is free from gadgets and fill in forms, but not free for options!
