Some experts say that it's only these online "Goliath's" that will be able to survive in the new online travel industry. Think about this a bit while you read the good news about Poco and POPIt - and then I will give you an important needle from a haystack.

I was planning to leave the more "normal" email clients - then suddenly from Vancouver Island (just outside Vancouver) there came flying a newborn email client. So now we know that there come at least two good things from Vancouver; Suite101.com and Poco the emailer. Slaven Radic who made this brilliant email client have told me that the name "Poco" are Italian for "little", and Poco is truly newborn and small - not more than 3 months old. Another reason for the name is that Slaven want to keep the installation program of Poco less than 1.4 Mb - able to fit on a floppy. Todays version still give some good space free on same floppy.
He told me further that he originally used Eudora Pro . When so Eudora Pro 4 came he realized that the usability hardly had changed since the first version he started with. In fact the email program only got bigger. Not only bigger but slower as well, even if his computer now was 10 times faster then when he started to use this email client. Realizing this he stumbled on some texts by Alan Cooper on user interface design that inspired him to make something different - mainly focusing on e-mail alone.
So there you have Slaven Radic - a self-employed computer consultant/programmer, originally from Croatia - sitting on Vancouver Island and getting fed up with his communication tool. Reading an article and start making an email client as a "pet project". The unexpected overwhelming response the first pre release Poco got, inspired Slaven to make Poco one of the BEST email clients ever made. The rest is a three months old history that already include Top pick in Softseek, 5 star pick in 5star Shareware, top Pick at c|net.
I believe Eudora and more - should seriously watch out for this small Poco. In our online life, it is not only the size of your marketing budget that give results...
