E-mail - or electronic mail which is the *real* name - has its history. And even if this history is short compared to the Pyramids or the Chinese Dynasties, it is a history with strong effect on our daily lives. If someone wants to know more about this history, my recommendation is to read the article Talking Headers from the Washington Post Magazine. For the software itself, please follow me a short journey via Darwin's evolution process. Electronic mail is one of the most important communication tools ( if not the most important tool) for travellers and travel professionals alike. Once it was pigeons, used in part of the Middle East as a highly developed postal system long before Europe became civilized. But today pigeons are mainly used as part of good cuisine or as a symbol of something we all hope will happen in this region... My favourite mail client is not a pigeon, but rather a chicken feed on digital adrenaline born in Pandora's box... Was that cryptic? If you say yes, then I have to agree - so allow me to explain. Joseph Bogner has a nice drawing of a chicken with thumbs up on his web site under copyright of Digital Adrenaline - so what? Well, there is truly unique software to be found on the same web site - freeware and all. The name of the software is Pandora - an e-mail client, and its download is 18 KB - in other words 0.65 % of the size of my main e-mail client and only 0.35% of the size of Eudora Pro. Joseph explain that Pandora started up as a project to create a working e-mail client less than 10 K in size, then the project went a bit out of hand and grew... Still, as he wrote: "Pandora is the only program that I know of which can check your mail, send new messages and site quietly in the tray for only 18kb of executable size." A totally redesigned version of Pandora, with an even better interface and more options is also on its way. I will let you all know when it's ready, so just "hang on" here in Professional Travel for the news. (-: For everyone who wants to know the basics of an e-mail client, download Pandora - it's hardly possible to believe before you try and see this with own eyes - because maybe the most unbelievable thing about Pandora is that it truly works. I have used it for a looooong time and have to admit that I do have a very weak spot for this e-mail client. Go To Page: 1 2
