Zab Judah--The most overrated fighter in professional boxing

News item: Judah KO's Green in 10th. Showtime fight fans put right to sleep.

Until now, I've always thought Prince Naseem Hamed was the most overrated fighter on this planet. But after Zab Judah's recent pathetic performance against the very-mediocre Reggie Green, the feeling here now is the Prince has some mighty competition from this Brooklyn fighter, who will forever be called in this column, "Boo" Judah. Boo as in, "Stop posing and start fighting, you fool."

From the opening minute of the fight, it was obvious Boo Judah could win easily if he ever put forth the effort. But "Oh no Mr. Bill." Boo Judah was content in looking pretty, shuffling his shoulders, doing a tap dance, and basically mugging for the crowd, which was paying big bucks to see a mugging of a totally different kind. Not to mention the Showtime viewers, who were once again assaulted with the inanities of Steve Albert and Bobby Czyz. But more on those two buffoons later.

Green, to his credit, was actually trying to make a fight out of it. Green kept shuffling forward, firing right hand leads to Boo Judah's arms and chest, which were the only two Boo Judah body parts Green could actually hit.

Yet for nine rounds Boo Judah never tried hard to match Green's intensity. The fight was so dull, in the sixth round and again in the seventh, octogenarian referee Arthur Mercante, who was reffing his 140th world title fight, put his finger in Boo Judah's face and said, "Mix it up!" Boo Judah looked at Mercante like Mercante was crazy, shrugged and went right back to what he was doing, or not doing.

After nine rounds, I had Boo Judah ahead six rounds to three, or 87-83. (The official score cards had it 86-85, 87-84, and 88-83.) But with the clock ticking toward 1 am, I was having trouble keeping my eyes open, watching Green awkwardly stumbling all over the ring trying to nail Boo Judah, who was having the time of his life putting everyone else watching this snooze to sleep.

Thankfully, a minute into round ten, Boo Judah fired a left cross smack on Green's chin. Green's legs did the dance of impending doom, and soon he was sprawled on the canvas against the ropes, with Mercante counting fingers over him. Mercante reached eight and Green stumbled to his feet. Boo Judah charged across the ring, and fired a looping right hook on the side of Green's face. Green went down again and Mercante waved the fight over while pulling out Green's mouthpiece. At that exact moment, a million viewers, not already asleep, shut off their TV sets with a sigh of relief. The tiresome pseudo-fight was finally over. Sandman sing me a damn dream.

Hey Jose, what do you think of Zab now that Tszyu starched him in two rounds. Was I right, or not?
