ECW - Independent Fed or World Fed?

Well, I am back for another installment of Independent Pro Wrestling. And this month I will discuss my opinion on whether ECW is an independent federation or in the same league as the WWF and WCW.

I suppose that most people believe that ECW is in the same league as the WWF and WCW because they are available on PPV and on all PPV channels in the US. But the thing is they are still not available in Canada or anywhere else, so in the retrospect no one can really use that argument. Because of that, that's why I believe that ECW is still an independent federation.

They are also not available on syndication all over the US like the WWF is on the USA Network and WCW on TNT and TBS. About half the US does not get the weekly ECW show. So no one can really use that argument either.

I do think, however, that ECW does deserve world title recognition because their title is defended in Japan which does mean it is defended in other places besides the US.

I also believe that ECW's success comes from the fact that they are an independent federation. A lot of fans see them as an alternative to the WWF and WCW. That's why people go to indy shows, because it's a great alternative to the norm. The fans are a bigger part of the show, and for the most part, indy feds make it a point not to insult the fans intelligence. Indy feds can't afford to lose even a few fans, but big feds can.

So in retrospect, it is good for ECW to be known as an indy fed because it makes it seem more of an alternative and something worth watching on TV and PPV and attending shows, instead of being the norm like the WWF and WCW.

Well, those are my thoughts for this month. If you agree or disagree please feel free to let me know by e-mailing me at lamia@eccw.com. Until next time we meet, this has been your indy reporter.
