Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of my rant about wrestling. This week I plan on addressing women wrestling and it's role in not only indepedent wrestling but in wrestling as a whole. So sit back and adjust your coke bottle glasses. This one is gonna be a doozy.
I believe that women wrestlers can serve a purpose. Women wrestling can be an entertaining and profitable part of pro-wrestling as a whole. Women wrestling has just suffered, like lucha libre, from a lack of credible and interesting storylines. It seems like most feds, small and big, are to blame for this. They will start a storyline involving women wrestlers and then drop it like a bad habit and never mention it again. Most of the time, these are angles that look promising if continued with and given proper air time. The WWF has done well, however, with their angles with Chyna. They have given her a chance to move slowly up the ranks and built angles around here while not at the expense of Triple H. She has made angles for herself and wrestled men in arguably some very good matches. Same could be said about Sable. They built angles around her but this time they were at the expense of her husband Marc Mero. Now we all know what happened with Mero. Because of his wife's popularity, he was used as a way to enhance her ring skills, which she sorely lacked. Then we have Debra, who is not a wrestler but at one time held the women's title. I see that as degrading the women's title. But some people say that the women's title was only used as a prop so the WWF would have a reason to put Sable on TV more and more. Now Ivory holds the women's title. Now Ivory is a credible wrestler who we can also see can work the mic and give decent interviews. I think they are going in the right direction with Ivory except they have too much time between her interviews and psuedo matches with planted women wrestlers. They need to have consistency. Or else women wrestlers are gonna fade away to being just valets. Most male fans will tell you that they only watch women wrestling for the sex and the fighting. And the hope that the elusive nipple or breast may slip out of their scanty outfits. I believe that men can still get that without sacrificing worthy angles and worthy wrestling matches between women. I believe women wrestling can be resurrected but not at the expense of the sex sells concept and not at the expense of men's wrestling. It does not have to be a division all unto itself. It can be Go To Page: 1 2
