The National Abortion Federation (NAF) reports their toll-free abortion hotline is receiving more and more phone calls from women asking about early abortions with the drug mifepristone.

"Over the last several months we have experienced a dramatic increase in the number of women calling our hotline and asking about mifepristone," said Vicki Saporta, executive director of NAF, in a press release. " We expect this number will only increase as we get closer to final FDA approval."

Saporta added it is NAF's experience that American women want access to this "safe early abortion" option. "Final FDA approval of mifepristone and the victory of medicine over politics that it will represent , is long overdue, she said.

Last week OnHealth.com reported the majority of women seeking abortion know when they conceived making mifepristone a safe alternative.

NAF's hotline number is 1-800-772-9100 in the United States and 1-800-424-2280 in Canada. They offer callers factual information about abortion as well as referrals to qualified abortion providers in their area.
