You have limitations. Many self-help books talk about the unlimited potential within each of us. Right! All the humans I know have strengths and weaknesses. You are where you are with the talents and resources you have. That's reality. You know that your company could prosper if you had more talented staff or at least more of them. How are you going to accomplish amazing feats with the meager resources you have?

You can take a tip from Benjamin Franklin. He picked 13 areas he wanted to improve. By concentrating on one each week, in three months he would get through all thirteen. In a years times he would complete the list 4 times. He could not focus on all thirteen at the same time, but one by itself was not overwhelming. He did not concentrate on one until it was completed. This would take too long and the other twelve would fall into disrepair. By working on them in rotation, he was able to build a firm base.

In your business, you can set monthly priorities. Each employee would continue to work on their normal duties but also add what they could to the company's monthly goal. For example, the easiest method would be to set up two rotating priorities. One month focus on increasing revenue the next month focus on reducing costs. You can and should be more specific. Some area to consider: Product Features, Marketing, Paperwork Systems, Supply Chain, Customer training, Staff training, Customer Satisfaction, Communications, Documentation, Customer Support, Time Management, Inventory Control, Policies & Procedures. I'm sure you can think of thirteen others that are specific to your company.

If everyday or every month you make small improvements, your company will have a much firmer base. This is the way to get to your unlimited potential.

' Benjamin Franklins Thirteen Virtues' These names of virtues, with their precepts, were: 1. TEMPERANCE. Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation.

2. SILENCE. Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation.

3. ORDER. Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time.

4. RESOLUTION. Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve.

5. FRUGALITY. Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; i.e., waste nothing.

6. INDUSTRY. Lose no time; be always employed in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions.

7. SINCERITY. Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly, and, if you speak, speak accordingly.
