I hear it time and again from my childbirth class students, how expensive everything they "need" for their baby is-baby swings, vibrating chairs, baby monitors and the list goes on. There are few things you really "need" to care for a baby, though there are lots of things we may want.
I think we need to focus more on what does the baby need? Your baby needs the security of their parents arms, the warmth of her mother's breasts, a clean, dry bottom, a safe seat to ride in, and clothing. Early on, there is little else that they "need". Keeping this perspective has helped me and a lot of parents realize what is truly important in a baby's life, especially when living a frugal lifestyle. If money is tight for whatever reason, take a look at these links from others parents who have managed to eliminate waste in their family budgets by making some small lifestyle changes. You don't have to try all of these suggestions, maybe only a few are appealing to you. Read about what has worked for these parents of young children and you may be able to find tips and techniques that can help you stay within your baby budget.
