Investing in a Fertility MonitorIn the throes of trying to conceive, you may wonder if a fertility monitor is right for you. The answer depends on several things. Number one, how long have you been trying. Number two, how many more children do you plan on having. Number three, have you been diagnosed with infertility. These and other factors influence whether or not a fertility monitor is a wise investment. There are several different types of fertility monitors that test saliva, urine and cervical mucus. The prices range from around $36.00 to over $500.00. Let's take a look at some of them. Saliva Test These "monitors" test the saliva during the menstrual cycle. You will need to learn the differences you will see in the test results pre-ovulation, during ovulation and post ovulation to accurately determine the results. The "fern-like" appearances you are looking for alert you to your fertile times of your cycle. Some name brands of saliva testers are Ovu-Test, OvuLens and Lady-Q to name a few. The OvuLens can be purchased from Craig Medical.com. This is the description they give: "The new OVULENS™ Premium Saliva Fertility Predictor is a self contained, reusable, precision optical instrument utilizing the same technology as the Ovum Test mini microscope. The OVULENS™ incorporates a new design and superior optics to enhance the identification of the crystallized "fern-like" structures that naturally occur in the saliva prior to and during ovulation. Through identification of these structures, it is possible to chart a fertility window during which the probability of successful conception is greatly enhanced. The OVULENS™ is a significant upgrade from the Ovu Test." Price: $39.90. The Ovu-Test can also be purchased from Craig Medical.com. Here is their description of this monitor: "The Ovu-Test Saliva Fertility Predictor is a reusable precision mini-microscope capable of determining the "fertility window" in the female cycle by identifying crystallized "fern-like" structures that naturally occur in the saliva during ovulation. While this unique phenomenon has been known to clinical researchers and medical professionals for years, this method of ovulation prediction has been more popular in Europe. Now available exclusively from Italy, the Ovu-Test saliva tester is a convenient, non-disposable and 95% accurate device when used according to the instructions included." Price: $29.90 The Lady-Q can be purchased from Complete Fertility.com. This is the description given at their site: "Durable metal outer tube (not plastic). Simple and convenient, take anywhere test.
