Drink Lots Of Water

Yes, drink lots of water while you are trying to conceive. This is important for so many reasons. Aside from the fact that water is just plain good for you – it is a terrific aid in getting pregnant among all the other benefits it bestows upon your body.

First and foremost our bodies contain a lot of water, therefore it is necessary to replace the water used. Doctors say we should drink from 8 to 10 cups of water a day. This is just to maintain what your body needs. However, when you are trying to conceive and when you are pregnant – it’s so important to keep the water coming.

First of all water is good for you whether or not your are trying to conceive or pregnant. Drinking 8 to 10 cups of water a day will help to clear your complexion. It will also help to keep your kidneys and bowels cleaned out. These are important for everybody.

In addition to the above benefits, water will increase the chances of conception occurring. This is because drinking plenty of water will help in increase the amount and quality of the fertile-type cervical fluid. The fertile-type cervical fluid is extremely important in conception. It’s the cervical fluid that carries the sperm to the egg. The more you have of it, the better the chances. Drinking plenty of water acts much the same way that taking guaifenesin does. Guaifenesin is an over-the-counter medicine that helps to loosen mucus. Guaifenesin is sometimes taken by women who are trying to conceive in order to help their cervical fluid to be thinner and more abundant.

Another good reason to drink a lot of water while trying to conceive is because of its benefits to pregnancy. Since you would not know you were pregnant for about 2 weeks, it’s a good idea to already be in the habit of guzzling water.

The benefits of drinking water while pregnant are:

  • It helps to prevent bladder and urinary tract infections – which are more common to occur during pregnancy.

  • It helps to prevent hemorrhoids – which almost always occur at some point in the pregnancy and especially during the delivery.

  • It prevents dehydration. Dehydration is one of the leading causes of preterm labor. This is because dehydration causes contractions which leads to true labor.

With this in mind, plan on consuming 8 to 10 cups of water a day in preparation for pregnancy and for your own good health. If you are not used to drinking a lot of water – you will notice that it will cause you to make many bathroom trips. As your body gets used to the water the trips will be lessened somewhat. However, in preparing for pregnancy – you may as well get used to the many bathroom trips – it’s a major side effect of pregnancy!
