The Second Annual Pop/Rock Reviews Awards

After the phenomenon that was the First Annual Pop/Rock Reviews Awards, hundreds of thousands of letters (most of them fictitious- ok all of them) have bombarded Suite101.com begging for a continuation of this great tradition. So, due to popular demand, they're back. In keeping with the tradition started back in 1998 the winner in each category of the Pop/Rock Reviews Awards (or the PRRAs as they're known in the industry) receives a little statuette carved in their likeness.

Best Reviewed Album of 1999: Out of all the PRRAs given out at this year's awards, this is the least contentious. Blonde on Blonde, rating a 9.5/10, is a brilliant album and shows just why Bob Dylan is a legend.

Worst Reviewed Album of 1999: This is always a difficult PRRA to hand out, and when the 'winners' come to the front of stage to collect it the audience don't know whether to clap or hiss. Anyway this year's recipient is the Black Crowes for Shake Your Money Maker, an awful collection of songs which scored 1/10.

5 Best Reviewed Songs of 1999: This is perhaps the most prestigious and eagerly awaited part of every Pop/Rock Reviews Awards. In no particular order these excellent songs (and all off wonderful albums) are 'Cigarettes and Alcohol' from Oasis' Definitely Maybe, 'Everlong' from the Foo Fighters' Colour and the Shape, 'Under the Bridge' off the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magik, 'Bohemian Rhapsody' off Queen's A Night at the Opera and, finally, 'Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands' which is on Dylan's best reviewed album of they year.

Best Name of a Reviewed Song: While it doesn't reach the heights attained by last year's winners Faith No More, the PRRA for 1999 goes to 'Government of Love' off the Andy White record Destination Beautiful.

Most Disappointing Reviewed Album of 1999: This year we ask two people to come to the front of stage as the judges can't split them: Beck, for the over-hyped Odelay and Alanis Morissette, for following up a sensational debut with the uninteresting Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie.

Most Pleasing Reviewed Album of 1999: Finally this year's awards finish on a high note with the most pleasing album of 1999. After failing to get the attention he deserved during his stint with a small English band called the Beatles, George Harrison proved his talent during a solo career which eclipsed his three former bandmates. After losing touch for a number of years Cloud Nine showed that he was back to his brilliant best.
