Welcome to the first annual Pop/Rock Reviews Awards - or the PRRAs, as industry insiders
like to call them. Each winner receives a little PRRA statuette carved in their likeness.
Worst Reviewed Album of 1998: This is also a tie. Congratulations or lack thereof go to Eric Clapton's Pilgrim and Dire Straits, the band's self-titled debut. Both scored a lowly 3/10. 5 Best Reviewed Songs of 1998: 5 PRRAs have been awarded to, in no particular order: "Exit Music (For a Film)" from Radiohead's OK Computer, Imagine, from John Lennon's album of the same name, the Eagles' Hotel California, also from the album of the same name, "They Write Words to People who are Dead," by Bressa Creeting Cake and "Swim" from the Bic Runga CD Drive. Best Name of a Reviewed Song: This isn't even a contest. The recipient of this years PRRA is "Pills for Breakfast" from Faith No More's We Care a Lot. Most Disappointing Reviewed Album of 1998: Electric Ladyland, by the Jimi Hendrix Experience. It's always exciting to hear work by a world-renowned musical legend for the first time. Unfortunately, this does Hendrix no justice whatsoever. Most Pleasing Reviewed Album of 1998: Bressa Creeting Cake's third PRRA of the night. This was a band of three young New Zealanders who, in 1997, released a little-known album for the little-known Flying Nun Records. The quality of the album is amazing, making it a worthy winner not only of this award, but also Album of the Year. And thus ends the first annual Pop/Rock Reviews Awards ceremony. Always contentious and always glamorous, this is the event the stars like to be seen at. And remember, the second annual Pop/Rock Reviews Awards is only one year away. Go To Page: 1 |
