Prime STH – Underneath the Surface

Rock and roll is universal. It doesn’t matter if you’re from Omaha or Russia, good music is good music. The Swedish rock band Prime STH’s debut album is full of good music. The STH is the band’s name stands for their hometown of Stockholm, although their music sounds very American. It’s a little rock, a little metal, a little punk, and very tight. Even though the band’s members are only in their early 20’s, they’ve been together since they were 12 and 13, so their sound is much more cohesive and advanced than most group’s first releases. Underneath the Surface is an accomplished debut.

Various Artists – Legally Blonde Soundtrack

This CD is full of girl power. All 11 songs on the soundtrack are by female artists. Some of the standouts on Legally Blonde are Samantha Mumba’s “Don’t Need You To”, Hoku’s “Perfect Day”, and Lisa Loeb’s “We Could Still Belong Together”. Mya also does an excellent version of the old James Brown song “Sex Machine”. Other artists featured on the soundtrack include Superchick, Krystal, Black Eyed Peas, Vanessa Carlton, Joanne Pacitti, Valeria and Lo-Ball. Legally Blonde is an upbeat dose of sugary pop, R&B and dance music perfect for a hot summer day.
